Pull and Bear, London

We noticed that this store were undergoing a lot of work recently but we had no idea that they were inputting this level of technology.  Of course, as we are seeing the world over, technology is gaining an ever tighter grip on the way we shop and sadly in a lot of cases to the detriment of 'old school' presentation techniques.  The reason for this it would appear is that no one ever seems to undertake some kind of apprenticeship where presentation techniques are passed on over long periods of time although we guess new types of presentation techniques may evolve from this way of working anyway?

Jigsaw, London

In keeping with the collaborative theme, here at Jigsaw (we normally simply glance at this brand along the street in passing) have worked in conjunction with the London based artist Aaron Dunkerton to produce this Star shaped clothes horse installation.  We are hoping that Jigsaw will continue to do interesting 'things' as it has been looking quite shabby for a while so this latest scheme is a welcomed relief for sure.

Tommy Hilfiger, London

We mentioned recently this key trend in Visual Merchandising - collaboration. We are seeing collaborations the world over (well where it matters at least) and while we are not huge fans of global corporate 'looks' here at Tommy Hilfiger we can at least view them following or demonstrating this key area/trend.  We are rather torn between the fact that Hilfiger are a global brand which slightly gnaws at us as we are in favour of localised creativity but yet on the other hand, the brand have given exposure to an artist who may not have had such promotion otherwise.  So where do we go from here?  We don't know the answer yet.  In the meantime, the London windows show an installation called 'True Blue' with the work of Debra Folz, a Boston based artist who's "work focuses on incorporating textile and pattern languages in furniture forms in an attempt to blur boundaries between disciplines and their assigned material identities".

Fenwick, London

After the stunning installation for the Olivier Awards and a touch of 'Old School' the guys at Fenwick have reverted back to their giant Daisies and cool Green.  Spring is well and truly upon us here in London thankfully and reflected so perfectly in this scheme.

Isabel Marant, London

This is such an interesting brand although we don't know much about it if we are honest.  We do love their 'Fine Art' approach they they usually adopt at their stores in NYC and Paris although this scheme is a little lost on us right now.  Placing an abstract prop next to merchandise and hoping everything will work has the slightest whiff of lack of care and consideration?  Arm less bust forms never work very well anyway and even worse putting one in shorts, don't you think?  At Marant, we usually find very clever and interesting schemes but this one just doesn't do it for us.

Panpuri, Bangkok, Thailand

We are always so pleased that people around the world share our passion of Visual Merchandising and indeed share their images too.  Panpuri is a brand which we weren't previously familiar with but the brand have graciously shared their latest installation with us so that we could share it with you.  Currently a niche brand in Bangkok, Panpuri is located across 29 countries (one of which you may well be living in)  We've seen recently, examples across the luxe brands in Paris and some here in London, the 'tropical paradise' trend and clearly it continues to spread itself around the world.  The Panpuri flagship shown here and based in Gaysorn, Bangkok has a window installation which has been transformed into this exotic woodland complete with Pea fowl and gorgeous foliage.  Great to see fantastic creativity coming from places beyond the usual mega-metropolises of London and New York.  Thank you for sharing guys.

Clarks, London

This is rather an odd scenario.  Why odd we hear you ask?  Well, it is not very often that we see really interesting and cool presentation but the product itself is actually not very desirable.  It seems that we need a name for this type of presentation but we cant think of one right now.  Anyway, Clarks is looking super cool but would you shop here?  Maybe the answer is yes and that you already do although we always strive to look for the aspiration, the less ordinary and the interesting ourselves and while the presentation does provide this, the product doesn't?  This brand certainly ticks a lot of the right boxes in their presentation although does the product now need to catch up or is the interesting presentation setting us up for failure and disappointment in what is being sold?

Moschino, London

Grrrr.....wow, doesn't Moschino look rather fun?  We saw this a few weeks ago so we thought that we should quickly show it before it changes, but it does what it does very well, don't you think?  OK, well we could mention that the mannequins hand is in the wrong position, but this is only because it has been hybridised (i.e. placed into a position which is was never meant to be in), however beyond that, the props are getting better and better with each scheme.

Joseph, London

Have you seen the latest installation at Joseph yet?  Don't worry if you haven't because here's a little snapshot for you to drool over.  The scheme is based on some of the key seasonal fashion trends for SS14; Bronze and Copper metallics.  The team have created these gorgeous Copper-like structures placed strategically around the space, but what you may not notice immediately as it is always difficult to really appreciate the beauty of any scheme through an image is that the floor is actually covered with Black Volcanic sand.  Stunning.

Liberty, London

Collaborations continue to play a significant part in Visual Merchandising right now as we will continue to demonstrate this week for you at all sorts of levels whether between artists, designers or brands.  This installation at Liberty of course in conjunction with Nike is one such example.  We love the colour of this scheme which is also a great example of symmetry in its use of both product handling dynamics and layout of the installation itself.

Zara, London

This scheme may have moved on by now but we wanted to include it anyway as we loved the mannequins wigs / makeup here.  Not all Zara stores of course get the super creative treatment so it is a pleasure to find the odd one such as this one on the corner of Oxford street and Bond street.

DKNY, London

Just like everything else in the world brands appear to go round in cycles and what was once a really cool brand seems to have lost all hope these days?  Up until the year 2000 this brand was rocking the high street and it really was a pleasure to visit its store opposite Barney's in NYC and now we can barely give them a cursory glance.  We cant actually remember the last time we even went inside this store along Bond street its been that long.  This is not to say of course that the quality is not here in what they produce, but its just not very exciting.  And, just look at the security behind the product.  Really DKNY, really?

Tiffany, London

We have to admit that we have been struggling to think about what to say about this scheme.  We suppose it references either Wedgwood or maybe Lalique in the backdrop but apart from that it is quite ordinary?  Maybe a sprinkling of Gene Moore's genius is needed this time around?

John Lewis, London

Looks like 'Jean Louis' are going for the grunge, street, urban gritty look at the moment with their wooden palettes and denim props.  The scheme does ever so slightly whiff of awkward teenagers but if this was the intention then job well done we guess.  Great to see this brand aiming at a younger crowd of course and naturally they are exceptional as a brand but a bit more anarchy would always be welcomed.

Daks, London

Celebrating their 120th year in the biz, good old Daks its looking a whole lot better than some of the schemes we have seen here recently.  It was a little like it had lost its personality and just didn't know what to do with itself.  Well, this scheme is hitting a lot of the right notes (no pun intended) although this is clearly a non-fun zone, don't you think?  Do the wealthy clientele have a sense of humour and stand around in rooms like this all day?  Cu'mon guys lets get a bit of life into these schemes?

Asprey, London

If like us you do love a good old out sized prop then swing by Asprey and see their latest scheme.  Giant die and gambling chips support the gorgeous super luxury product in this scheme.  The beautifully stitched backdrop oozes that luxurious feel that this brand is synonymous with and works perfectly in its muted tones.  Great to see also that someone here nearly has a sense of humour too, well sort of.  Go on be a little more cheeky with those scrabble words, eh? Louis Vuitton, London

We did ever so slightly wince (not mince) when we saw this scheme initially although actually it is quite impressive.  Like a giant box of deliciousness the latest installation at good old LV of course is as exceptionally produced as ever in its installation.  We weren't immediately grabbed by it, probably as the contents of the inspiration that it came from were possibly rather less ordinary looking than the merchandise placed within the scheme (no matter how expensive it is) but we have to admit but we have warmed to it and it does actually photograph very well.
